Prep Class for 2A/1C MA Hoisting License Exam

When: Monday, March 7th
Time: 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
Class Description: The class will cover how to fill out the application correctly, Mass General Laws 146 and CMR 520 6.00 sections as it pertains to hoisting machinery. Hand signals, Dig Safe and safe operation of hoisting equipment will be included. The class will improve the student’s ability to pass the exam.
Instructor: Tom Matthews is a full time firefighter/EMT and runs R.P.M. Training Services. He holds a 1B/2A/4A license
Fee: $185 per person, Prep Class Only, No Exam Offered (Lunch included)
CPR/AED “Heartsaver” Training
When: Tuesday, March 8th,
Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Class Description: This class is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory or other requirements. “Heartsaver” CPR/AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor led course that teaches adult CPR and AED use as well as how to relieve choking.
Instructor: Jake McNeilly is CEO of McNeilly EMS Educators. He is a Mass Certified Paramedic working full time as a Firefighter and as a Paramedic. His many credentials include Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) instructor and CPR and 1st Aid Instructor for the American Heart Association.
Fee: $43 (Lunch included)
“Make the Cut” Chainsaw Operation, Maintenance & Safety
When: Wednesday, March 9th,
Time: 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Class Description: This workshop will emphasize chainsaw operation, maintenance and safety. A chainsaw will be dismantled to show proper cleaning. Protective clothing while operating a chainsaw and safety habits for the operator and others on the team will be covered. Styles and features of different chainsaws will be discussed and if you are in the market to buy, wait until you have attended this workshop as you will be guided to the best chainsaw for your needs. If weather permits, the instructor will take the class outdoors to our Nursery Yard to demonstrate sawing and felling techniques. If weather prevents this, some of the techniques will be shown indoors. Please bring your own eye and ear protective gear.
Instructor: John DelRosso is the Head Arborist at Arnold Arboretum. He is a graduate of Essex Agricultural & Technical Institute and holds an AAS in Natural Resources Forestry. He has been a consultant for several parks departments around the Boston area and a guest speaker for the New England Park Ranger’s Association.

DON’T GET CAUGHT! Federal DOT Requirements & Regulations for Landscape & Construction Professions
When: Thursday, March 10th
Time: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Class Description: If you want to know what GCVW (Gross Combined Vehicle Weight) means to your company and other vitally important Federal Regulations to keep your trucks and trailers legal on the road you must come to this class. Learn about the requirements for FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and how they apply to your company vehicles.
Instructor: State Trooper Brian T. McAnally

Rescue/Survival/Escape: Arborists and Rescue Professions
Class Full/Registration Closed
When: Friday, March 11th
Time: 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Class Description: A representative with PETZL will be leading this workshop discussing Protective Clothing and Equipment (PPE) for tree safety and rescue. Included will be discussions on escape and rope-based safety for the professional.
Instructor: Bill Duffy is an active 24-year veteran FDNY Firefighter and currently serves as their lead trainer for Firefighter Personal Safety Systems. Bill specializes in Firefighter survival/escape helping to design instructor and firefighter rope-based training and safety for the 10,000 FDNY Firefighter Force.
