A new plant must prove itself as superior to get into the Proven Winners ColorChoice program. Novelty alone is not enough. Potential varieties are evaluated against existing varieties in side by side evaluations and are graded on the following criteria:

Is the plant an improvement over current selections?
Is it a healthy growing plant, with superior disease and pest resistance?
Does the plant have multiple seasons of ornamental interest?
Does the plant serve a new or unique function in the landscape?
Will it grow in a container?

If a new variety scores well in this initial evaluation, it's then subjected to a production evaluation. If a plant performs well in production, it's then made available to progressive growers across North America. Look for the distinct PW tag to be assured you are getting an authentic, true to name, Proven Winners plant.
