New
Family of Phlox
Phlox paniculata "Barthirtyfive" Volcano Phlox
is a new family of Phlox that are compact, sturdy, exceptionally floriferous,
and are very tolerant of powdery mildew that plagues most other Phlox.
Initially introduced in four colors; pink, white, red, and purple, with
more to follow, Volcano Phlox feature flower clusters of 125 flowers or
more each, providing masses of flowers from July through September. Volcano
Phlox are hardy in USDA zones 4 through 9. Unlike many Phlox, which can
grow taller than three feet tall, Volcano Phlox grow low and compact on
upright, sturdy 20 to 30 inch stems making them an excellent choice for
both borders and containers.
House & Garden
Volcano phlox are compact and low growing, and are
suited to garden beds, borders and patio containers, where they require
minimal care. Because of their superior mildew tolerance, they require
little attention in the garden, but provide masses of color from July
through September. Plant singly, in small groups or en masse for colorful
displays.
Landscape Use
Volcano phlox are excellent in landscape plantings,
ideal for garden beds and borders along driveways and paths. Compact and
sturdy stems, with masses of bright colorful flowers, they provide color
in the landscape from July to September and will enhance any garden setting.
Plant en masse for loads of color or in small groups to complement other
foliage and flowering plants.
Commercial Use
Volcano Phlox are suited for commercial plantings;
their superior mildew tolerance ensures they require minimal care and
maintenance in the landscape. This combined with their masses of flowers
from July through September ensures they will enhance any commercial landscape
around shopping plazas, golf courses and corporate offices. Their compact
and sturdy growth will ensure that they won’t obstruct the vision
of drivers in highway plantings and parking lots.
