Take a Tour. Our Monrovia salesperson, Mary, just finished touring four of the Monrovia growing locations. Seeing is believing, Monrovia truly has Distinctively Better plants. Georgia | Oregon | California | North Carolina.
What is a Distinctively Better plant? First, it is a plant with unique features and better traits that distinguish it from common varieties. Secondly, it is one that is healthier, has a uniform structure, stronger root system and greater resistance to pests and disease. Better health is created by how they grow their plants. In short, a Distinctively Better plant is one that makes them proud to grow it. They know gardeners are truly passionate about what they do, and Monrovia is equally passionate about introducing and growing distinctively better plants.
Monrovia is continually introducing new and exclusive plant varieties. Often it takes an average of eight years before they consider a new plant ready for national distribution. As a result, Monrovia’s new plant collection consists of plants that were introduced within the past five years. Monrovia is a leader in the acquisition, trailing and promotion of new plants. They work with breeders and plant hunters around the world, and of course their own Monrovia Craftsmen. Monrovia’s Craftsmen are always looking for what's new and exciting.

Echinacea Mac 'n' Cheese
Narrow, golden yellow petals radiate from a coppery cone on this exciting new introduction from Terra Nova Nurseries in Portland, Oregon. Like its namesake, 'Mac 'n' Cheese' looks brighter than other yellow Coneflowers. Held on well-branched stems about 26in tall, its 4 1/2in blossoms will light up a border. PP 19,464

Heuchera Sashay
This rich green foliage is so deeply ruffled that the burgundy undersides are revealed at every turn, giving a tousled, two-tone effect. Plants are unusually tough and winter hardy and 'Sashay' is especially pretty when lightly dusted with frost. |
 |
Heucherella Sweet Tea
Huge cinnamon stars are surrounded by the loveliest orange tea colored borders. Undeniably the most intensely colored Heucherella ever! The big, palmately cut leaves darken in the summer and lighten up again in the fall. Its Heuchera villosa breeding gives it a big bold habit and heat and humidity tolerance.
| |
Heuchera 'Miracle'
Heuchera 'Miracle' forms a 1' tall x 2' wide clump that grows through late spring and summer with chartreuse gold leaves, then in cool weather, the leaves develop a subtle red veining. As the cool continues, the red color in the leaf intensifies. After the winter, the red leaf with a yellow margin is simply stunning! |
 |
Heuchera villosa 'Tiramisu' PPAF
Hailed as a breeding breakthrough, this exciting Heuchera combines bright colors with elegant seasonal changes. A shot of bold, sunny color for dappled shade, it is a heat- and humidity-tolerant native perennial, evergreen in mild and warm climates, that deserves a place in the garden of everyone who values unusual foliage. | |
Clematis x 'Vancouver Starry Skies'
Clematis continue to captivate us and Vancouver Starry Skies is no exception. Sporting large, eight-inch fuchsia rosy-pink flowers that grow darker towards the center, with age the flowers become paler. However, the mid-rib, "dusted with gold," of the bloom continues to be very colorful.
|
 |
Coreopsis 'Jethro Tull' PP#18,789
This exciting new cold-hardy Coreopsis is a natural cross of C. 'Zamfir' and C. 'Early Sunrise,' combining the best attributes of both. Its rich golden-yellow blooms appear abundantly in mid-spring and are fade-proof even in the brightest summer sun. You can expect them to bloom continuously from mid-spring through late summer.
|
 |
Echinacea purpurea Pink Poodle
With a different form than other double pink Echinaceas, the 4in, bright pink, fluffy flower heads of 'Pink Poodle' look more like those of a Zinnia or decorative Dahlia. Visitors to your garden may have a hard time recognizing this as a Coneflower. Give this new pup a try! |
 |
Gaillardia Amber Wheels
Playful, extremely large, golden, fringed petals surround a prominent amber bull's eye center on this breakthrough blanket flower from Germany. Blooming profusely all summer, it makes quite a statement paired against coneflower and verbascum.
|
 |
Geranium phaeum 'Margaret Wilson'
The Border selections of Cranesbill Geranium are valuable fillers for color in the perennial garden. This variety forms a mound of deeply-cut green foliage, handsomely streaked in creamy yellow. Prefers moist shady sites but tolerates drier areas well. |
 |
Pennisetum setaceum 'Fireworks'
This NEW Multi-colored Purple Fountain Grass is a rapid grower and prolific bloomer with creamy, pinkish, red-burgundy color throughout both foliage and purple foxtail-like flowers. A fantastic annual grass worth planting in colder areas. This grass is unlike any other and will definitely be highly sought after focal point for annual beds as well as container plantings. |
 |
Heuchera 'Citronelle' PP#17,934
Like so many good things in life, 'Citronelle' was a complete accident -- a mutation on the lovely orange-russet toned 'Caramel'. But far from echoing its parent's warm tones, these large, rounded, lobed leaves are neon-bright and a blinding shade of chartreuse! Topped by small creamy-white bells in mid- to late-summer. |
 |
Oenothera kunthiana
Attractive deep pink flowers stand out against glossy dark green foliage of this unusual Oenothera. Ideal for borders or containers. Flowers open early in the morning and evening when cooler. In 2nd year height may increase to 12-18 inches. |
 |
Oenothera speciosa
In contrast to its predominantly yellow flowered brethren, this evening primrose produces white flowers that turn rosy pink from the outer edge of the petals inwards as they age. The plants grow 8-24 in high and spread up to 15 in, sending runners out beyond that. |
 |
Paeonia (Itoh) x 'Pink Double Dandy'
The large, semi-double to double flower measures up to 6" and is held on strong stems above a compact mound of 24 to 30" tall and wide, dark green foliage. As the flower matures, the dark lavender pink petals slowly fade to a soft pink, revealing a cluster of yellow stamens in its center. The flower is lightly fragrant. Prefers full sun to dappled shade. |
 |
Paeonia (Itoh) x 'Yellow Doodle Dandy'
The large, double flower, measuring seven to eight inches, is spectacular: masses of clear yellow petals form a perfect flower with a light and very pleasant fragrance. Blooms are held on strong stems just above a compact mound of dark green, trouble-free foliage. Plant is very hardy. |

Why buy plants grown by Monrovia? It is all in the soil. When you purchase a plant grown by Monrovia there has been a lot of care in how that plant comes to you. The first step is what the soil it is growing in, secondly is the craftsmanship and care while it has been growing, and third is how it will survive in your garden.
What about the Soil? A critical component of the growing process is the soil. Plants grown in nutrient-rich soils are healthier, with stronger root systems. Monrovia is the only grower of premium ornamentals in the world that custom blends 42 different soil mixes, including compost and native soils.
Seven different types of mycorrhizae are added to their soil mix to create an environment that dramatically increases the life of their plants. Mycorrhiza is a beneficial fungus that develops in and around a plant's roots, stimulating its nutrient and water uptake, increasing fruit and flower yield, and reducing transplant shock and other environmental stresses.
Once you begin adding Monrovia plants to your garden, the mycorrhizae in our soil will begin to spread, benefiting your garden's ecosystem. You'll see for yourself that quality soil ensures that plants flourish, making them far more resistant to pests and disease.
An ecosystem in every Monrovia pot. They know just how important soil is to healthy plants. That’s why every pot contains a whole ecosystem full of invisible microorganisms that work hard to make you a more successful gardener. It’s Monrovia’s secret to maximum growth and flowering through powerful mycorrhizal fungi and slow-release fertilizers that gives their plants the growing edge. Combined with your soil improvement efforts, they guarantee their plants will go the distance and really pay off with extraordinary beauty and vigor.
Craftsmanship. Monrovia has been fortunate over the years to attract "Craftsmen" who share a passion for Distinctively Better plants. They call themselves Craftsmen because the term refers to people who use their hearts, mind, and hands. Craftsmanship comes from treating each plant as a unique creation that needs care to become and remain and third is how it will survive in your garden. Plants do not come off an assembly line, and our Craftsmen know their work continues until each plant is planted in the garden.
Survivability. The key to any landscape planting, survivability. Because of the hard work Monrovia has put into growing a finish product the plant should acclimate quicker to your soil and develop roots faster in to your yard With proper planting and maintenance after installation they have seen less transplant shock, more blooms and much more vigor of Monrovia plants vs. others.
