Plants: Heucheras

Heucheras are an old fashioned garden plant (coral bells) that have been hybridized to create an incredible range of foliage and flower colors. Every year more new colors are introduced and the end does not seem to be in sight. Listed here are some that we have found to be the best garden performers. These plants do best in partial shade but the villosa hybrids are more tolerant of heat and humidity. Though we grow heucheras for their foliage in the garden today the flowers on some are striking and are good for cutting.

	Heuchera villosa ‘Autumn Bride’ This is a great groundcover heuchera for dry shade, it has very large fuzzy light green leaves with showy white flowers from September until frost. 12-24”height Sept-Oct		Heuchera ‘Caramel’ Beautiful yellow/orange and red foliage that does not fade. White flowers bloom in summer and attract hummingbirds. Plant in partial to full shade. 12-15”height x 15-18”spread
	Heuchera ‘Citronelle’ ‘Citronelle’ has electric yellow leaves that will stand out in your shade garden, it does not tolerate sun and will burn. It is however a bright specimen in the shade. White flower in June-July 10-12”height		Heuchera ‘Frosted Violet’ Vigorous heuchera with pink-violet new growth, light pink blooms in June-July 12-15”height x 18”spread
	Heuchera ‘Georgia Peach’ Spectacular shades of peaches with a silver overlay, blooming white in June-July 14”height		Heuchera ‘Green Spice’ These broad green leaves have a silver frosting with darker green edges and burgundy red veins, the colors intensify in the cooler months, with red and orange foliage in fall. Quite striking! 9”height Tiny white flowers
	Heuchera ‘Marmalade’ The foliage color on this heuchera is outstanding, Golden peach colored leaves with red undersides, the plant is easy to grow in the garden or in containers. 15-18”height		Heuchera villosa ‘Mocha’ Very large matte burgundy foliage almost 6” across. Cream colored flower. 16”height
	Heuchera ‘Obsidian’ One of the darkest foliage heucheras we have seen. The foliage is very dark purple, almost black, colored and shiney. The color stays true through the season. Blooms are white in June-July 18”height		Heuchera ‘Palace Purple’ The foliage on this heuchera has the shape of a maple leaf with burgundy- purple coloring. 18-24” height Plant in partial shade. White flower
	Heuchera ‘Plum Pudding’ This heuchera has a very tight habit with shiney plum purple foliage and silver veining. Place it in the front of the border or in a patio planter in partial shade. 10-20”height x 12-16”spread		Heuchera ‘Quilters Joy’ This has very distinct foliage, silver on bronze that give a patchwork appearance. The flower is creamy white in June-July 8-12” height
	Heuchera ‘Raspberry Ice’ ‘Raspberry Ice’ heuchera has beautiful purple-red foliage with a frosting of silver. 12” height Pink flower May-August		Heuchera ‘Silver Lode’ Beautiful matte silver foliage with dark veins and burgundy undersides. Flowers are pink buds opening to white flowers in spring. 12”height
	Heuchera sanguinea ‘Splendens’ This is one of the heucheras that is grown for it’s flowers which are airy pink and bloom for weeks. The foliage is low and green. 15”height Vivid red blooms June-August
